Camacho Triple Maduro cigar review
Camacho entered, and I believe won, a Maduro race some years back. The trend was to take a Maduro wrapper and couple it with as many other Maduro elements to make a super rich tasting cigar. Camacho assessed the challenge and then pulled out all the stops. Wrapper, binder, filler: all Maduro leaves. This was the first time it was ever done successfully for the masses.

This cigar is the brain child of Sal Fontana of Camacho who pitched it to a skeptical Christian Eiroa who, at the time, was the President of Camacho. (Side note: he now is head of the Asylum brand which we touch on another post). While it seems like an easy recipe – just add more Maduro – the actual execution is magnitudes more challenging. Maduro is by nature a thick and oily leaf. This usually creates a richness of flavor, but with it comes frequent burn issues. The Triple Maduro was the result of 84 development blends to perfect this blend so that it would offer flavor and smoking performance.
The winning blend turned out to be a mix of Honduran, Dominican, and Brazilian long fillers delicately tucked into a Corojo and Honduran binder, and blanketed by a sultry, dark wrapper from San Andres, Mexico. Deep, dark, rich flavors sum up this blend. The Camacho Triple Maduro is the holy grail for Maduro lovers. Although dark and ominous, it has a well-balanced medium-to-full body flavor and taste that is truly unique. This is complex richness of flavor, not mere sweetness. Not that there’s anything wrong with sweetness. We love sweet, sweet Maduro action on our palates!
This cigar still has the original band because we have patiently stored a few pallets of these sticks as their tobaccos have married together into the truly refined experience that you get to smoke. The Triple Maduro is an excellent choice for after big dinner or a night cap with your favorite beverage.
When this cigar was released to the market almost 10 years ago, the fanfare exploded. People were lined up around the counter for these bad boys. Since then, Camacho has expanded and released several other lines including Camacho Connecticut and Camacho Criollo for those who like the medium body, Camacho Ecuador which has a little more body to it, and Camacho Diploma which is a true full-bodied smoke if you have comfy chair to sit down and enjoy one.
